Our approach

Since 2023, the French Institute for Civil Society Organisations has initiated a new phase of collaboration by joining research consortiums. This approach reflects a dual ambition: to contribute to collective research dynamics and to bring CSO sector issues into cross-cutting projects at the intersection of disciplines, stakeholders, and territories. Initially involved in national-level projects, we have expanded our participation to European programs, notably through an Erasmus+ Sport project focused on the socio-economic models of amateur sports clubs in Europe and Latin America.

By joining these consortiums, the Institute strengthens its mission of fostering dialogue between research and grassroots actors, while enhancing its contribution to the production of knowledge that supports democracy and the recognition of the civil society phenomenon in France, Europe, and internationally.

Consortium projects that Institute contributes to

LAIC "Associative freedom and citizen initiative. Observing, experimenting and democratising the relationship between associations and institutions"

The LAIC project aims to analyze the conditions under which civic freedom is exercised in France. At the intersection of law, sociology, and political science, it explores the dynamics of civic space—whether expanding or shrinking—through fieldwork and comparative data analysis. As a consortium member, the French Institute for Civil Society Organisations contributes its deep knowledge of the nonprofit landscape and ensures that research findings are meaningfully linked to the lived realities of CSOs, supporting a form of research that is both useful and relevant to today’s democratic challenges.
